Reuben and Lynne warmly welcome you to dinner at Bethany’s this evening.  Welcome back to all those who have dined with us before and a special welcome if this is your first time with us!

Bethany’s Restaurant is named in memory of our eldest daughter who passed away from cancer at the age of 12.   We just celebrated her 24th birthday with family and friends. I’m trying to work out the youngest I could (realistically)  possibly be for the next time someone asks me my age! (Lynne!) I don’t think 27 sounds so believable these days! Of course, having a 21 year old giant for a son ages me a little too!

2016 has been flying by so fast and I know many of you have been waiting patiently for the new menu. Reuben slowed things up rather when he ruptured his Achilles tendon back in May and was forced to sit with his leg up for days on end!  Not his favourite time! Funny thing was, I thought it would drive me mad having him around all the time, but I ended up really enjoying seeing so much of him! Now driving him places...well that’s another story altogether! A major blessing was Reuben getting a new treatment which involved the use of a moon boot which put his healing process 2 months ahead than if he had been in a cast! Highly recommend to anyone with a ruptured Achilles!

And so, our award winning Head Chef Michael Brill and our Sous Chef Charlie Darlow are delighted to bring this menu to you!  We are introducing ‘Sous Vide’ cooking into our new menu. This involves cooking meat at low temperatures for a long period of time; it reduces loss in mass and moisture and adds flavour and exceptional tenderness to the meat. This method of cooking was first discovered by Sir Benjamin Thompson in 1799 and it was eventually adopted in 1974 for restaurant use. We are using this method on our lamb, pork and chicken dishes. So enjoy...!

Make sure you come in during the day and try something from our Brunch and Lunch menu. After 4 years of people asking for it, finally our savoury pancake is back! Worth a try! We have a new spiced meatball linguini and old favourites, the Thai Chicken and Prawn Salad and the Warm Chicken Salad remain as they are so popular.  Don’t forget we still make the best Fish and Chips in Palmerston North!

Our dessert menu is full of Tantalising Treats for your Taste buds!  Allow us to re-introduce the old favourite Death by Chocolate and two new amazing desserts from Charlie; Steamed Toffee Espresso Pudding and our ever popular Crème Brulee with home-made mini doughnuts.  The doughnuts have also been introduced to the Children’s Menu, and for those of you who have slightly older children with smaller appetites, we have extended the age limit for the children’s menu up to 14 years. Last but not the least; don’t forget about our wonderful cabinet food all handmade at Bethany’s!

Remember that upstairs we have an amazing space which is available for all sorts of functions and celebrations and arguably has the best view of the heart of Palmerston North, especially at night!  We can fit 80 seated and up to 120 standing for functions and Reuben is always happy to speak to anyone about the possibilities available, so feel free to contact him!  For those of you with specific wine likes, we have a BYO option available now, and you can catch up with us on our Bethany’s website and like and follow us on Facebook!
